2016-Shoe Expo İzmir International Shoe Design Contest. The “Körüklü Çizme” (Pleated Boot), an inseparable part of Aegean culture and traditionally worn by the legendary Efe, is a craft developed in harmony with Yörük traditions. Designed to make horseback riding easier and to protect foot health through the air circulation allowed by its pleats, this boot is entirely handcrafted using a unique and masterful technique. Beyond its functionality, the pleated structure reflects a rhythmic form often seen across various aspects of life. Today, however, the Körüklü Çizme is on the verge of disappearing—kept alive by only a few remaining artisans. To preserve this cultural heritage, it is essential to reinterpret the technique with a dynamic and modern approach. Designed for the 2016–2017 fall/winter season, the Urban Legend collection reimagines the Körüklü Çizme myth with a sporty, urban look. Urban Legend appeals to modern men who seek innovation and individuality. Through this collection, the pleated boot legend is rescued from extinction and reintroduced into daily life.
